Kitanda Artisanal and Small Scale Miners Association Ltd (KASSMA) is a community-based miners' association located in Kitanda, Kiruuma Subcounty, Mubende District, Uganda.

Established to organize, empower, and professionalize artisanal and small scale miners (ASM), KASSMA promotes responsible mining practices, financial inclusion, and structured market access — bringing miners, gold processors, traders, and service providers under one coordinated framework that promotes transparency, safety, and sustainable economic growth.

What We Do

What We Do

KASSMA delivers a full spectrum of services — from policy advocacy and licensing, to gold marketing, financial inclusion, safety training, and digital record systems.

Policy Advocacy & Representation

We represent miners before the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, advocating for fair mining policies, legal protection, and members' rights.

Licensing & Formalization

We register and formalize miners under national mining regulations, supporting members in acquiring and maintaining valid mining licenses.

Gold Marketing & Export

We organize collective gold aggregation with transparent weighing and fair pricing, connecting miners to certified buyers and facilitating lawful export processes.

KASSMA SACCO & Finance

We operate the KASSMA SACCO providing savings and affordable credit, alongside financial literacy and business management support for members.

Safety, Health & Environment

We train members in safe and sustainable mining, promote mercury-free processing, strengthen site health standards, and support land restoration programs.

Digital Systems & Transparency

We implement digital systems for member management, receipt generation, SACCO management, and transparent gold transaction tracking across all operations.
